Vaitheeswaran Koil Vaithiyanathar Koil is a Shiva temple that has received the Thevaram hymns by Thirugnanasambandhar and Thirunavukkarasar. The main deity of this temple is Vaithiyanathar, and the mother is Thayalnayaki. Arunagirinathar, Kumara Guruparar, Padikasu Thambiran, Chidambara Munivar, Kalamegappulavar, Ramalinga Adigal, Vadukanatha Desikar, and Darumaiyadeenam have also sung about this temple. The name of the Lord Muruga in this temple is Muthukumara Swami. A book called Muthukumara Swami Pillaithamizh has been sung about him by a devotee named Kumaraguruparar. It is the 16th Shiva temple in the Chola country that has received the Thevaram hymns.
Vaitheeswaran Koil is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Shiva, located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.[Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanathar or Vaitheeswaran meaning the “God of healing” and it is believed that prayers to Vaitheeswaran can cure diseases. Vaitheeswaran is a Tamil derivative from vaidya (Doctor) and Ishvara (God/Master). The presiding deity is Sri vaidyanathan, facing towards West whereas East side is the common one. He is the God of Healing. When pronouncing in Tamil, it sounds like “vaideeswaran”. It is one of the nine Navagraha (nine planets) temples and is associated with the planet Mars (Angaraka).
Velurvaayil is the Sangam-era name for Veluru. The word ‘Vel’ refers to Lord Muruga. The word ‘Pul’ refers to Garuda and the word ‘Irukku’ refers to the Irukku Veda, according to M. Arunachalam. The Sangam-era poet Idayan Nedungeeranar states that the deity of this town sacrifices the lives of those who tell lies.
It is a place where one of the nine planets (Navagraha) is worshipped along with the planet Mercury. Angaraka is believed to be the god who has the power to cure leprosy. It is a famous place for nadi astrologers.

When Angaraka, one of the nine planets (Navagraha), was severely afflicted with leprosy, Lord Shiva arose as Vaidyanathan Swami and cured him. When Thirunavukkarasar was suffering from a severe stomach ache, he prayed to his brother Vaidyanathan to cure him, and he arose and cured him. Since then, Lord Shiva has been worshipped as Vaidyanathan by his devotees.

There are oral traditions (aytheegams) that Lord Rama, Lakshmana and the seven sea sages (Saptarishi) came to this temple and worshipped here.
This place is named after the king of Sri Lanka, Ravana, when he abducted Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, who is considered the god of Hindus, but the eagle king Satayu intercepted and stopped him. Rama and his brother Lakshmana (Jatayu) together placed the body of Satayu near the pond located here and set fire to it, so the pond located in this temple is called Satayu Kundam.
In the small shrine inside this temple, the god Dhanvantari and the Tamil god Murugan are depicted as Muthukumaraswamy.
